are often denigrated as being of little to no value as far as protection goes. But that is not true. While it is true, they are not generally helpful in the midst of an attack, without one, the police will not answer a call for help until "after" a physical attack occurs--by which time the victim may not be able to call for help being too severely injured or even dead. With a protective order, a potential victim can call for help the moment she sees the batterer coming--before the crisis occurs. This is the value of getting an injunction--protection by prevention.
